PROJECT SHINE

The intent of Project SHINE is to:
  • Get businesses and schools jointly engaged in the application of learning
  • Provide educators with individual business mentors
  • Support educators with a practical answer to the student’s question, “Why do I need to know this?”
  • Expose students to the specific STEM skills required to be successful in many business environments

NU-Teach is a new initiative from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to assist teachers in strengthening their mathematical, scientific and computer knowledge for teaching.

This summer professional development opportunity has been designed for K-12 teachers in Nebraska.  Special incentives are available, like scholarships which cover program and facility fees and reduced rates for apartment style living if you have to travel into Lincoln.

Please consider join your collegues in discovering geometry together over this next school year beginning in August for the statewide professional development mathematics series.  This series provides interesting problems to explore with each other and to see what geometric thinking is happening with your students.

Two exciting cutting edge experiences are available only to Nebraska middle/high school math teachers:
1)  Learning and Working with Geogebra  - an unbelievable FREE software that combines geometry and algebra along with an extra bonus to meet the designer in September in Kearney.
2) We will have special permission to use Fostering Geometric Thinking materials which are not yet published.

Registration deadline is January 25, 2010.  You won't want to miss this exciting opportunity!
